We all know that Mom is the center of the family and home. She does everything for everyone, and is always there when we need her. When it comes to building a new custom home there are many items on a family’s wish list that can be incorporated into the design. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite custom home must-haves that we know are what Mom wants in her new custom home on LBI.
The Heart of the Home – The Kitchen!
First of all, we know that an open concept kitchen is a huge must-have for most moms so that she can be part of the conversation while entertaining. In keeping with a more open look, designing the kitchen with open shelving instead of traditional upper cabinets gives a lighter, less boxy look to any kitchen. In addition, maximizing views are critical because mom wants something beautiful to look at while she’s in the kitchen, so large windows wherever the design allows are a must!
A large, functional center island with an additional oven, microwave, or wine chiller below and plenty of counter space above is another of moms must-haves for her kitchen. It goes without saying, that mom wants energy efficient high end appliances that make cooking easier. And, lastly, don’t forget the pot filler faucet. This nifty faucet goes right above the kitchen stove and is installed into the backsplash, allowing you to fill your biggest pots right at the stove! Mom spends a lot of time in the kitchen (as does the rest of the family), so having all the features she needs to make it as efficient and enjoyable as possible.
Mom Wants an Amazing Master Bath
After a long day at the beach, mom deserves to relax and unwind in luxury, so naturally, she wants her master bath retreat to include the high-end features she needs to rejuvenate before the evening festivities. A freestanding tub is a must-have for total relaxation and luxury.
If a bath is not mom’s thing, designing a large, walk-in shower with all the bells and whistles like rain shower heads and dual app-driven controls not only adds that level of luxury mom wants, but is also technologically advanced. His and her sinks keep mornings running smoothly. Be sure to include a place to sit for her to get ready by incorporating a vanity area with electrical outlets inside the vanity drawers to keep appliances at the ready without being left out on the counter. Trust us, mom will love this feature!
Finish off the luxurious master bath experience with wireless Bluetooth speakers, towel warmers and heated flooring. Bluetooth speakers are a great feature because they link music from her phone to speakers (which can be in rooms throughout the house) via WiFi and an easy to use app. Towel warmers and heated floors are extra touches that with keep mom warm even on the chilliest of days!
Crafts/Sewing/Art Room (AKA Mom Cave)
Provide Mom with a cozy place to read, practice yoga, or relax with meditation. In addition, built-in shelving, a counter height island work surface, and cabinets can add to the room’s functionality for sewing, arts and crafts, or any hobby mom might be in to. Design it with lots of windows, overlooking some beautiful scenery, and mom will be totally inspired to create her best work!
Moms Love Technology Too!
From app-driven technology to learning thermostats, like Nest, and everything in between, don’t think for a minute that moms aren’t interested in technology. Many women use apps to control the lights, HVAC, security and sound systems, and other home functions. Mom wants peace of mind while she’s at work, running errands, or spending some time on the beach. By controlling the home’s functions with her cell phone, she can relax and focus on her day.
Don’t Forget the Walk In Closet
We all know that adequate storage space in a new custom home is a no-brainer. But, there are some features mom needs in her walk in closet besides space and hanging rods that can make a big difference in how she stores her clothing and gets herself ready for work and play. A large center-island with drawers for storing jewelry and accessories is a great addition to a spacious walk in closet. Plenty of full-length mirrors and the right lighting are necessary so she can check her look before she leaves for the day. And don’t forget a great shoe display with angled shelving so all of her shoes are organized and accessible, even her glass slippers!
We can all agree that Moms everywhere are the superheroes in our lives. While we celebrate them every day, Mother’s Day is a special time when we can show them our gratitude for everything they do for us. So, let Mom incorporate the must-have features she needs in her new custom home on LBI.
