Now that the days are getting longer and spring is less than six weeks away (according to our friendly little furry friend the groundhog), it’s time to get your custom home on LBI ready for spring. Many of our homeowners winterize their homes while they aren’t around all winter, but even if you are here all year long, these are some of the things you should do to get your home in tip-top shape and ready for the warmer weather months ahead. We are all about getting your custom home on LBI ready for spring and can’t wait to get back to summer!
Checking All Systems
If you’ve been away most of the winter, it’s a good idea to check all your home’s systems to ensure everything is in proper working order. Check the electric and make sure none of the breakers have popped. This will ensure all your electronics are working and you don’t have any surprises when you plug the toaster in this spring. In addition, schedule your HVAC technician to come out to make sure your air conditioning is in working order so you’re not sweating it out on the hottest day this spring. Inspect your plumbing pipes and make sure nothing is leaking under your sinks, in your bathrooms or laundry room, and that all your faucets and showers turn on and off, the hot water works, and your toilets are flushing. Again, by preemptively checking all these systems in the home and scheduling any needed maintenance early, you’ll be sure to beat the rush and not have to wait for service.
Power Washing and Prep Outdoor Space
Let’s face it, in the warmer weather you practically live in your outdoor spaces. There’s nothing more relaxing than the cool breezes on a summer evening blowing across your seating areas while you are cooking outside on the grill for your guests. If you prepare your spaces early with a thorough power washing of decks, patios, and siding your outdoor spaces will shine all season long. In addition, unwrap your deck furniture if you’ve had it covered or shrink wrapped, and get those cushions ready for cozy firepit nights. Schedule your pool opening early and skip the wait in line. Check all pool pumps, electric to the pool equipment (this could be part of “Checking all Systems”, above), heaters, fountains, and specialty lighting/features. Last, get your lounge furniture and pool floats ready for action so that you can be pool ready as soon as the weather turns warmer.
Gather Your Family and Friends
Be sure to book your family and friends’ weekend visits early enough so that everyone’s calendars are in sync! This can be especially fun to do because it can give you a look ahead at what’s happening this spring and summer on LBI. When you have the right people visiting at the right time, it can make the stay a pure pleasure. Need a few weekends to yourselves? Don’t be afraid to book some “alone time” time just for you and your family to enjoy.
