With this weekend being the “unofficial” end of the summer season, we’re hoping you got to do all the things that this beautiful area has to offer this year. If you’re still on the island and looking for some fun things to do over the holiday weekend, strap yourselves in because there’s a lot going on! We all know that Long Beach Island is a treasure trove of family activities. The more obvious recreational activities being the beach and the bay, but there’s so much more to our beloved LBI than just the water sports and fun! Let’s look at some of the events and things to do Labor Day Weekend on Long Beach Island.
Beach Haven Historic Walking Tours
If you’re here early, an awesome historic walking tour of Beach Haven might be just the thing for you! These guiding walking tours of the historic district leave from the Long Beach Island Museum every Tuesday & Friday (so September 1st) at 10AM (weather permitting) and include the restored Fisherman’s Cottage. This is a fun, and educational option for anyone interested in the history of LBI.
Barnegat Light Museum
Located on Central Avenue in Barnegat Light, the museum is open 10 am to 4 pm weekends in September and admission is free. The museum is adjacent to the Barnegat Lighthouse, which is the second oldest lighthouse on the northeastern seaboard! The old school building that houses the museum holds a wide variety of exhibits related to the history of the town, fishing industry, and Long Beach Island. You can also climb the lighthouse and view the panoramic scene. This is an awesome thing to do and if you’ve spent any time on LBI, it’s also one of those must-dos!
The Surflight Theater
Take in a show this holiday weekend at our very famous Surflight Theater. This weekend, until September 2nd the Broadway musical “Disaster!” features unforgettable songs from the 70’s. Who doesn’t want that?!! This show is a musical comedy and the Surflight is a gem for those who love live theater. If you’re looking for a show for the kiddos try “Cinderella”, which is playing at the Surflight Children’s Theater from August 30th – September 3rd, starting at 6pm. Tickets are 13.00 each.
Fireworks in Beach Haven
Saturday night on September 2nd, Fantasy Island Amusement Park Fireworks will be shooting off at 9pm. Not only is Fantasy Island Amusement Park a great place to have a fun time with family and friends during the day, but you can also have dinner, then stick around for the fireworks display. This always takes the summer season out with a bang!
Viking Village
Viking Village is a quaint dining and shopping venue that was founded in the 1920s and continues to grow and evolve as an industry leader in commercial seafood production. Tours of the dock to educate the public on the world of commercial fishing run every Friday through 9/1/23 at 10AM. There is also the retail fish market and the shops of historic Viking Village to explore. On Sunday, September 3rd VV will be hosting their Art & Craft show from 10 am to 4:30 pm where local artists will be showing and selling their work. Lots to do at this all-time-favorite LBI venue.
