Summer 2020 is starting to turn around! We’re so excited that the beaches, restaurants, and some entertainment venues are open and ready to go. July 4th weekend on Long Beach Island is one of the best weekends to be here. Although things will be different this year due to the COVID-19 safety measures that have been enacted by the governor, there are still plenty of reasons to come down and spend the weekend. We would like to share some of our picks for July 4th weekend on Long Beach Island: what to do & where to be!
If you plan on being around Friday night, it’s a great time to go to Fire Pit Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at the 68th Street Beach in Long Beach Township. Bring your blankets, chairs, and coolers and enjoy a beautiful evening on the beach. There are multiple fire pits to gather around and music to listen to as your family and friends relax and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Social distancing will be to all groups attending and masks are required on the 68th street walkway. Friday, July 3rd will feature music from Calista Quinn starting at 5:00pm and Tokyo at 7:30pm. Fire Pit Fridays run all summer through Labor Day.
Dining is another great thing to experience on LBI, with plenty of choices for delectable dishes for all palates! Since re-opening for outdoor dining a couple of weeks ago, restaurants will be following state mandates for wearing masks, social distancing, and other requirements for diners and staff. Be sure to check the restaurant’s website before heading out, and make a reservation for your party if necessary. Keep in mind that our local businesses are doing everything they can to accommodate the public, but patience and understanding are appreciated as everyone adjusts to the current state recommendations.
Everyone’s favorite thing to do on July 4th weekend is to view the fireworks in or around the area. Unfortunately, throughout the state annual displays have been postponed or cancelled this year. We recommend checking with each town’s website to see if any are planning to move forward with their annual display this year. Although this favorite tradition of going to see fireworks may not be a possibility for most this July 4th weekend, we won’t let it dampen our spirits as we celebrate our nations independence!
As far as getting your blanket on the beach, you’ll need to check with the town on information for beach badges, rentals, and other information to know before you go. According to the LBI Chamber of Commerce website, it appears that all our local beaches are open, which is a great thing! Here’s a link to their web page addressing beach concerns by town. This can be a great resource during your time on LBI. You can also sign up for their VIP Club to stay up to date on Long Beach Island events by texting LBIUPDATES to 57838. Please make sure you read their policy before signing up for these text updates.
